Lane Closure on Country Club Drive Extended
The City of Valdosta closed a portion of Country Club Drive on Feb. 7 to repair a collapsed manhole, discovered after heavy area rains. Officials expected the work to be completed and the road to be reopened today. However, due to the additional rainfall received and the discovery of an unrelated culvert issue, the road will remain closed for a minimum of two weeks, or until work is complete.
In making the repairs to the manhole, city crews discovered a deficiency in the culvert crossing that would not have been discovered otherwise. City officials investigated and decided that the replacement of the culvert crossing was necessary for the structural safety of the road.
Road closures will remain in effect for the northbound and southbound lanes of Country Club Drive between North Valdosta Road/SR 41 and Moss Way/Pine Point Circle until further notice. Turn lanes from North Valdosta Road/SR 41 to Country Club Drive are also closed.
Adequate traffic safety measures and arrow boards are in place to provide advance warning to the traveling public of these closures and detours. Motorists are reminded to adhere to the speed limits posted in the neighborhoods of the detoured routes and to be mindful of small children and other pedestrians.
The city appreciates the patience of citizens while crews work quickly and safely to make the repairs. For more information, contact the Engineering Department at (229) 259-3530.
