  The U.S. House Committee on Agriculture, in taking up the Farm Bill yesterday, approved an amendment to crackdown on spectators at animal fighting ventures, but also approved a destructive, constitutionally questionable amendment to strip states of their right to protect farm animals and other animals from exploitation and abuse.
• Norfolk’s Operation Turtle Receives Humane Wildlife Stewardship Award
  The Humane Society of the United States presented a Humane Wildlife Stewardship Award to participants of Operation Turtle, a public-private partnership that has saved the lives of hundreds of aquatic turtles and other wild animals.
• Celebrities, School Children, Advocates Gather at Capitol to Lobby for Permanent Ban on Horse Slaughter
  As part of the “Horses on the Hill” event, celebrities, local school children, young equestrians and advocates joined lawmakers at the Capitol to urge legislators to permanently protect our nation’s horses from inhumane slaughter.
• USDA Revokes License of Mississippi Roadside Zoo
  A roadside zoo in Mississippi has lost its exhibitor license after 43 years. The U.S. Department of Agriculture revoked the license following an undercover investigation and legal complaints to state and federal officials by The Humane Society of the United States.
