Press Release: City of Tallahassee
Tallahassee Animal Services is providing a rabies and identification clinic exclusively for cats on Tuesday, Oct. 15, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Tallahassee-Leon Community Animal Service Center. At the clinic, free microchips, rabies vaccinations, collars and personalized ID tags will be provided at no cost! Be the Solution Inc. will also be providing spay/neuter vouchers to attendees.
This is the purr-fect opportunity for owners of finicky felines to bring their pet in for these services without worry of dogs and other animals startling their cat.
Almost 70 percent of the more than 6,000 animals the ASC has received this year were stray animals without a collar and tag, and only seven percent of cats were returned to their original owner. Through efforts like Tuesday’s rabies and ID clinic, Animal Services aims to prevent more lost pets from entering the shelter, as animals with a collar and ID tag are more likely to be returned home by the finder than turned into the shelter.
City of Tallahassee Animal Control reminds you that your free roaming cat is required by ordinance to be spayed or neutered, microchipped and wear its rabies tag. This clinic is an easy way to come into compliance without extra costs.
Tallahassee Animal Services is offering this free clinic thanks to a generous grant from the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. While the event is free, a suggested donation of $10 will help to cover the cost of future clinics. Photo ID and proof of Leon County residency are required, and cats must be secured in a carrier.
The Animal Service Center, located adjacent to Tom Brown Park at 1125 Easterwood Drive, is operated and maintained by the City’s Parks, Recreation and Neighborhood Affairs Department.
