TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) _ Voters in parts of Brevard and Orange Counties will vote in January and February to elect a replacement for former Representative Bob Allen, who resigned after being convicted of solicitation.
Governor Charlie Crist has set a special primary election for the seat on January 29th. The general election will be February 26th.
Allen's resignation is effective February 15th.
The Republican from Merritt Island resigned Friday after being convicted of agreeing to pay $20 to perform oral sex on an undercover police officer in the men's room of a Titusville park. He has asserted his innocence and says he will appeal.
Allen was first elected in 2000 and would have been term limited next year.
