Tallahassee, FL - The 11th day of the demonstration here at the Capitol by the Dream Defenders brought a number of new faces.
The second week of the governor's office occupation saw out-of-staters showing their support for the youth activists. Groups from Maryland, Philadelphia, and New York made the trip to Tallahassee to show their support. The dream defenders are calling on Florida governor Rick Scott to call a special legislative session to repeal the Stand Your Ground law.
The Dream Defenders say that law lead to the acquittal of George Zimmerman. It's worth pointing out that Stand Your Ground was not used in the defense of George Zimmerman and that the governor has repeatedly said he supports the Stand Your Ground laws and will not call a special session.
Since the governor has said 'no', they've gone in a new direction. Today they read the names of 5 legislators who have supported calling for a special session. They will continue lobbying lawmakers, because if they can get 3/5ths of the Florida House and Senate to demand a special session, then a special session will be called.
Besides the governor and legislature calling for a special session, the only other way is if the senate president and house speaker called for one together.
