MARIETTA, Ga. (AP) _ Retired Marine Corps Colonel Mike Boyce, back from a ten-month stint as an infrastructure contractor in Iraq, is seeking to challenge Representative Tom Price for his 6th District seat.
The 58-year-old Republican says he is running because of the need to enforce laws on illegal immigration and his concerns about the economy, Georgia's water woes and the war on terrorism.
Boyce, who lives in Marietta, said his maternal grandparents emigrated to the U.S. from Mexico and Portugal. But he said this is also a nation of laws.
He also said his familiarity with the Army Corps of Engineers while serving in Iraq would help him be a liaison in seeking to resolve issues concerning Lake Lanier and the region's exceptional drought.
Boyce, who served in the first Gulf War, said the conflict in Iraq requires diplomatic and economic solutions in addition to military action.
