Representative Curtis Richarson not only explained the property tax cut amendment Monday night, but he says it's not going to save all that much money for homeowners.

He met with a small group of residents at the Palmer Munroe Community Center and his message was to tell voters to vote no on the amendment one property tax cut. He says the drawbacks greatly outweigh the small savings, which affects even non-homeowners. If it is approved, he says we could see a cut in public services in local communities.

Representative Curtis Richardson said, "People need to attend forums like we had here, so that they can truly understand the issue that they need to research and get as much information as they can on this issue because it's not all that it appears to be on the face of it."

The property tax exemptions will need a 60 percent voter approval to win. Richardson said the tax cut will take billions from the state and it will not generate the economic stimulus advocates predict, which in turn will create other cutbacks.
