NEW YORK (AP) -New York Governor Eliot Spitzer says he's
resigning, two days after allegations surfaced that he was a
customer of a high-priced call-girl ring. Spitzer made the
announcement in his Manhattan office. He will be replaced by
Lieutenant Governor David Paterson, who will become New York's
first black governor.
As he announced his resignation as governor,
Eliot Spitzer said he's ``deeply sorry'' that he didn't live up to
what was expected of him. He said he ``sincerely'' apologizes to
every New Yorker. As on Monday, when he made a public apology, his
wife stood at his side.
Spitzer says the resignation will take effect on Monday, March 17th.
