President Bush Lifts Ban on U.S. Coastal Oil Drilling

An executive ban on U.S. coastal oil drilling is lifted. Now, President Bush is asking for the congressional ban to be lifted in an effort to curb record high gas prices. However, many have mixed feelings about how much this effort will help the current situation.

Some critics of President Bush say he is an oil man and it's no surprise he lifted a ban to drill off the U.S. coast, while others disagree saying he just trying to ease America's reliance on foreign oil. Either way, it's now up to congress to go forward with the president's request.

"Now the ball is squarely in Congress's court. Democratic leaders can show that they have finally heard the frustrations of the American people by matching the action I have taken today." said President Bush.

Georgia Governor Sonny Perdue, who thanked the president, says we shouldn't take any option off the table, especially one that will reduce dependence on foreign oil. Other politicians say oil speculators are one of the other reasons for rising gas prices, but Republicans and Democrats are currently working on a plan together to regulate speculators.

Imagine a world where it does not matter how much gas costs because we need so little of it. When you come home at night you plug in your car so it can recharge which allows you to drive for miles without using any gas; this would cost about as much as burning a light bulb. Railroads and trains make a comeback which can transport tons of cargo for many miles on very little energy. Nuclear power is being explored as an energy source which is clean and cheap (and not dangerous as the paranoids think). People are driving more sensible cars. More people are walking and riding bicycles (cutting down on another problem - obsesity). All these positive changes are cutting down on harmful carbon emissions which are destroying our environment. High oil prices have caused these positive changes. Bush wants to drill for more oil because he wants more profits for oil companies; finding alternatives would lose him money.

Bush promised before he got elected the first time that he would have drilling in the gulf. Since he is an oil man, I'm sure he is very happy he finally let the prices get high enough that his opponents and the citizens would agree that it was necessary.

For you"red"Yes I get my news from a fair and balanced news(FOX) channel, you see I like to know both sides to a story before I make my decisions on any thing. But I was telling you to do the wctv poll today, because people (as bad as you say things are now)are paying their mortgages now,so please tell me how this can happen "DUNCE"?AND I NEVER SAID THAT THE ECONOMY WAS ALL GOOD,BUT I AM SAYING THAT IT IS NOT ALL BAD OUT THERE EITHER.And the country is not doomed unless your dem gets in the white house.By you saying that Bush is the worst thing to happen says it all.You are still just a Bush hater, and sorry to let you in on this BUT that is all you are!I read all your comments that you post on wctv and you are not a educated person at all,if you try watching a good news(FOX)source, then maybe there is still hope for you.And yes I support Bush,I did when I carried the label "dem",but I started being ashamed of that label and went to the good side, when you wise up you will join me here!

Anonymous - Where do you get your information? Fox News? Fair and Balanced? Are you serious? The economy is good? Did everyone see what he posted? He said the economy in is good! I give up. The country is doomed. There is no hope. Bush is the worst thing to happen to not just this country but the whole planet and there are still people out there who support him.

Hey Red,.....You said this"Remember about two years ago their was a Republican Congress and Repulican President. The country is in a mess right now and paying for all the mistakes they made. However, their is hope. VOTE FOR DEMOCRATS! It's our only hope."Well I just did wctv's poll today and maybe you should go do it yourself and you will see for yourself that things are still not so bad in this economy that Bush created! And as you stated we did have both the congress and a Republician President.Well we lost the congress but what have they got to say for themselves since they won it,I await your reply! And as for the Republician President well he can"t run again and will step down, nor impeached either, like bubba was.You being a dem says it all.I do not know you but I know where and why you think like you do.Like you I was once a dem but I got smart because I believe in bigger and better things. The dems lost their way!
