Democrats used the opening night to reintroduce Illinois Senator Barack Obama.

Some Democrats say they are hoping the four day political festival will reassure voters still wary of putting a political newcomer in the White House.

Obama will accept his nomination on Thursday night in a speech to 75,000.

The Republicans will hold their convention next week in St. Paul, Minnesota.
