Thousands of people in our area have been dealing with closed and dangerous roads. For one Leon County neighborhood near the Ochlocknee River... conditions made it nearly impossible for them to vote in today's primary. But when voting is important to you... you'll find a way.
Primary Election Day is a busy day for Leon County Supervisor of Elections Ion Sancho, but on this primary, he's going door to door to residents near Fairbanks Ferry Road by the Ochlocknee River who are trapped by flooded and swampy conditions brought on by Fay.
"When a voter wants to vote, it's their right and in Leon County we'll make sure that they can cast a ballot," says Sancho.
Daisy Vickers says she spread the word to neighbors that Sancho's office was offering delivery service for folks who couldn't get to the polls.
"I was looking at WCTV news this morning... and it came across and I just called in," explains Vickers.
A flooded area of Meridian Road separated voters in the Northwest area of Leon County from their voting site. The flood waters almost topped fences along Meridian Road, and it was shut off to traffic.
So when Leon County Commissioner John Dailey learned that these voters couldn't get to their precinct, he and Sancho brought it to them.
Clifford Golden says he was happy to see them come up to his home with a ballot just for him.
"Instead of you just sitting back saying I didn't vote because of this and that - so it's good," says Golden.
Kenneth Jerger says he's been living in the same home for 48 years and says this flooding is the worst it's ever been in this neighborhood.
"You know we're bound to a chain so I really wanted my vote to count... I been betting on my vote to count this year," says Jerger.
These voters say being able to vote brings some relief as they wait for the watery conditions in their neighborhood to improve.
Residents say they hope they'll be able to drive out of the neighborhood in regular vehicles by Thursday.
