FL/GA Amendments

Florida voters are considering six constitutional amendments, Georgia voters are considering three.

In Florida, supporters of amendment two say they want to put a definition of marriage in the constitution to further secure it against being changed.

Opponents argue its vague wording would create problems for some same-sex and heterosexual couples.

The other amendments were placed by the Legislature and a tax commission...

Two would give tax breaks to owners of coastal properties and land near conservation areas.

In Georgia, Amendment One encourages the preservation and conservation of Georgia's Forests through a special assessment and taxation of certain amounts of land.

Amendment two deals with school property tax.

It would allow local school districts to contribute to Tax Allocation Districts.

And, Amendment Three proposes creating special Infrastructure Development Districts that would allow new residents or homeowners in a community to pay for improvements in undeveloped or rural areas.
