The economic slump and record foreclosures are highlighting the need for more affordable housing.
The Florida Legislature mandated all cities and counties to establish affordable housing advisory committees... in order to access state funds.
The committees must review local policies and regulations and make recommendations that will make it easier to create affordable housing.
Leon County's committee completed its report Monday afternoon.
Cynthia Turner is the chairperson for the Leon County Affordable Housing Advisory Committee. She says, "There are a lot of people who are out there who are prepared to buy who are credit worthy. They can buy. They just don't have the down payment money, and statistics will show that those people are not the ones that are losing their homes."
The committee's recommendations and final report must be submitted to the county by December 31st.
