SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) He appeared before reporters after the body voted 114-to-1 to have him stand trial in the state Senate, which could remove him from office.
Furious lawmakers say he's turned state government into a
"freak show.'' Not a single one of them spoke in his defense. But
Blagojevich is portrayring himself as a victim. He says he's
committed no crime and will "fight every step of the way.''
He ended the news conference by reciting a few lines from the
poem "Ulysses'' by Lord Alfred Tennyson, ending with: "To strive,
to seek, to find, and not to yield.''
The impeachment came one month to the day after Blagovich was
arrested on federal charges that include trying to sell
President-elect Barack Obama's vacant Senate seat.
