TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) -- Florida's new speaker says ousted speaker Ray Sansom will keep a committee chairmanship in the House of Representatives.
Sansom was voted out as speaker earlier this week over concerns about his relationship with a Florida Panhandle college. The Destin Republican also faces possible action from the Florida Ethics Commission and a grand jury that will convene later this month.
However, new Speaker Larry Cretul said Friday that Sansom will chair the House Policy Council.
Sansom also was appointed to sit on the Finance and Tax and Rules and Calendar Councils.
Cretul, R-Ocala, plans to recommend Rep. Ron Reagan of Sarasota to serve as speaker pro tempore during the 2009 session that begins March 3.
