Incoming House Speaker Prepares for Balancing the Budget

As a drill, Incoming House Speaker Larry Cretul ordered lawmakers to balance next year’s state budget, preparing for a larger deficit than predicted. Cretul also told House members to rule out any of the 13 billion dollars Florida could receive from Washington DC.

"I've asked them to look at the worst case scenarios and I've asked them to base some of those assumptions on what I would call less than favorable budget revenue projections," says Cretul.

When lawmakers return to Tallahassee in March, they could face a four billion dollar deficit in next year’s budget. They could also be asked to re-balance this year’s budget.
