Florida Budget

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) A divided Florida House has approved a
proposed $65.1 billion budget plan that's loaded with fee
increases.

Fees for driver licenses, vehicle registration and a host of
other services would increase by nearly $1 billion under the
measures (HB 5001, HB 5101) that passed Friday.

It passed the GOP-controlled House 74-45 with just one
Republican joining all Democrats in opposition.

The Senate a day earlier unanimously passed its version that
spends $549 million more. It includes fewer fee hikes but has a
$1-a-pack tax increase for cigarettes and other revenue-raising
provisions not in the House plan.

Also, the House would cut most state employee salaries by 4 or 5
percent depending on how much they make.
