New Poll: Floridians Support Gov. Crist, Not Higher Sales Tax

The Quinnipiac University poll found 73% of Florida voters approve of the job Charlie Crist is doing three months into his first term, but 51% of polled voters oppose eliminating property taxes and replacing them with higher sales taxes.
"Political history shows voters are skeptical about giving lawmakers any encouragement to raise their taxes," says Quinnipiac pollster Peter Brown. "Even if they’re promised something in return that they want." Voters also appear to appreciate the way Gov. Crist handled the state’s insurance crisis during a January special session and believe he will do something about the current property tax crunch.
More than 1,000 Florida voters participated in the survey over the past week.
