Authorities said 29-year-old Kenneth Pruitt Jr. was rushed to Tallahassee Memorial Hospital where he died. He was visiting the home of some friends when they called for help for a medical emergency about 1 a.m. Authorities said an hour after receiving the call Pruitt Jr. was pronounced dead.

"He's not the victim of a homicide, he's not the victim of any type of violent crime and there's no foul play that we can tell. We're just gonna have to wait until we get the results of the autopsy from the medical examiner and the results of the toxicology report," said Major John Creamer of the Tallahassee Police Department.

The spokesperson for the Senate President issued a statement saying "Pruitt and his family appreciate the thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. The enormity of the loss of Ken junior is indescribable."

Governor Charlie Crist gave his sentiments saying "Our thoughts and prayers are with Senate President Ken Pruitt and his family today. My heart goes out to the Pruitts as they deal with this tragic loss."

Senate Democratic Leader Steven A. Geller offered condolences saying “On behalf of the entire Senate Democratic Caucus, I offer my deepest sympathies to Senate President Ken Pruitt and his family. It is difficult for any parent to imagine the insufferable loss of a child and our hearts go out to Senator Pruitt. Our prayers for the Pruitt Family join those of the entire Senate. We wish them much strength through this tragedy and offer our support in any way we can.”

Authorities said it could 6-8 weeks before knowing Pruitt Jr.'s cause of death.
