All Eyes on City, County Commission Seat Races

Tallahassee, Florida- August 15, 2012

Florida's Primary has come and gone but the campaigning isn't over for four candidates vying for Commissioner seats.

In Leon County, incumbent Akin Akinyemi and first timer Mary Ann Lindley are headed for a runoff election in the Leon County Commission At-Large Seat One race.

"I'm going to get with my team, we're going to see what we need to do differently, but most importantly I'm going to continue to do what I do best, which is knocking on doors and reaching out to voters one on one," said Leon County Commission Chairman Akinyemi.

Akinyemi captured 33% of the vote. Lindley thinks that's a call for change from citizens.

"Chairman Akinyemi got 33 percent of the vote which means that almost 70 percent of the voters are looking for a different kind of leadership so he's got some work cut out for him," said Lindley.

For Tallahassee's City Commission Seat One, former Mayor Scott Maddox got 40 percent of the vote and businessman Steve Stewart took home 34%. They'll be squaring off in November.

"With two candidates, we can both stay at our positions and debate them and come November the voters have a clear choice and can make their decision, I'm looking forward to that," said Stewart.

Maddox said his camp saw this coming.

"We were excited, we weren't surprised, I knew that we were gonna lead the pack from the feedback we've been getting by knocking on doors and waving signs, we got a lotta honks and thumbs up so we thought we'd be leading the pack going in to November," he said.
