Carlos Lopez-Cantera was just sworn in as the Lt Governor, almost a year after Jennifer Carroll resigned.

The Speaker of the House said Lopez-Cantera is the first Hispanic Lieutenant Governor ever for the state of Florida.

He was joined today by his two daughters, wife, and other family members.

His last role was the Miami-Dade Property Appraiser.

He also served eight years in the Florida House of Representatives. Governor Scott says he was big on tax reform while he served.

He was also Majority Whip and Majority Leader.

Florida now officially has a new lieutenant governor. Carlos Lopez-Cantera was sworn into office Monday.

Governor Rick Scott named the former state legislator and Miami-Dade Property Appraiser to the post last month. After a private swearing-in ceremony at the governor's office, 40-year-old Lopez-Cantera addressed the media at the Governor's mansion.

Lopez-Cantera says he looks forward to working with a team that cuts $500 million in taxes. He says, "Results matter and his record is something to be proud of. Unemployment is down to 6.2 percent from 11.1, 462,000 new jobs in the state, a state that paid down over $3 billion. That's something to be proud of, and I'm proud to be part of that team."

Lopez-Cantera has a wife and two daughters.

The job of lieutenant governor has been vacant since March 2012.

Former lieutenant governor, Jennifer Carroll, resigned after being questioned about work she once did for a charity that prosecutors have said was a front for a widespread gambling ring. She has not been accused of any wrongdoing.
