"If women would just register to vote and stand strong as women, we could make some significant changes," said Valdosta Women's Voices president Linda Pysher Jurczak.
Valdosta Women's Voices is a nonpartisan group whose goal is to get more women's voices heard by way of voting. On Monday, the group participated in early voting for the Georgia Primary, and is continuing to encourage more people to vote.
"If we don't vote, then we are not participating in our rights as citizens and someone else gets to choose for us, which is not what we want," said Pysher Jurczak
Pysher Jurczak says the group gets involved in local races because it's important to vote for issues that will directly impact their lives.
"Many of the women in the group are mothers and are interested in the gun issues, issues that involve women and families, things that are going to effect us and we want to make sure our voices are heard in Atlanta," Pysher Jurczak.
Voters not in the group agree that voicing your opinion is important.
"A lot of men and women died for our right to vote and we have to get out and cast our vote for the people who are going to represent our nation in the right way," said Joseph Williams.

ATLANTA (AP) -- Early voting begins Monday for Georgia's state primary.
All top statewide officials are up for re-election this year, and voters will be weighing who they would like to represent them in the U.S. Senate. Georgia's 14 congressmen are also running for re-election, and every seat in the Georgia General Assembly will be on the ballot.
The U.S. Senate race is one of the most closely watched in the country as Republicans seek to take control of the chamber away from Democrats. Seven Republicans and four Democrats are running for the Georgia seat, which opened when Sen. Saxby Chambliss announced plans to retire.
Early voting locations can be found on the Secretary of State's website, at http://www.mvp.sos.ga.gov . Early voting continues through May 16. The election will be held May 20.
