Eaton, Wise Win GOP Races for Utility Commission

ATLANTA (AP) -- July 31, 2012 -

Incumbents Chuck Eaton and Stan Wise have won their Republican primaries, giving them a chance to keep their seats on Georgia's Public Service Commission.

Unofficial returns on Tuesday showed Eaton took roughly 60 percent of the vote against challenger Matt Reid in Tuesday's primary election. Eaton will face Democrat Stephen Oppenheimer in the general election. Oppenheimer ran unopposed in the Democratic primary.

Wise won about 57 percent of the vote against challenger Pam Davidson. No Democrat qualified for the ballot in November.

The commission regulates gas, electric and telephone utilities in Georgia, making decisions that are worth millions or even billions of dollars to those industries.
