Tallahassee, FL (AP) - Florida House Democrats are being told that they could break House rules if they show up at a party fundraiser.

The Florida Democratic Party has scheduled a legislative appreciation party in Tallahassee on Tuesday night. The party is asking for a minimum donation of $500 for those who want to attend.

Senate Democrats are skipping the event because the Senate general counsel warned that Democrats would violate a Senate rule that bans lawmakers from raising money during session.

The House has slightly different rules, but now the House general counsel has cautioned Democrats in that chamber from attending the fundraiser.

George Levesque, in a letter to a Democratic legislator, said that lawmakers are being used as a lure to potential donors.

Both the House and Senate are controlled by Republicans.

I agree totally. You Republicans are shady individuals who change laws to suit your criminal activities. Those of you who voted for the crook with pay with your retirement pensions. Dummies.

The last sentence of this story explains what the source of the problem is. Show me proof and facts that Republican members of the Legislature have never attended a fundraiser or collected campaign money during a Legislative session. I`d bet if they didn`t, verbal agreements were at least made to be fulfilled at a later time. Sounds very much like the rules were written by Republicans to thwart and control Democratic members - just as the Republicans want to control EVERYONE in the state all while these hippocrits speak of freedom and smaller government.
