Last Minute Voting Prep Leading Up to Tuesday's Primary

Updated: Mon 7:18 PM, Aug 13, 2012

Tallahassee, Florida- August 13, 2012

Florida's primary election is August 14th and there is plenty at stake for the races in our area. The day before an election can be nerve racking, not just for the candidates but for the election supervisors and precinct clerks trying to make sure that the voting process runs smoothly and accurately.

Some of the candidates take to the sidewalks and streets for a last minute push to try and sway undecided voters. At the Leon County Voting Operations Center Monday, precinct clerks began picking up their materials they will need for the primary.

The Leon County VOC provides kits with materials including something as simple as pens and paperclips to important signs and documents like change of voter registration forms.

"We're doing final prepping at all of the voting locations. Citizens should see the voting precinct signs at all of the voting locations for tomorrow's elections and all we are doing now is waiting for the citizens to vote on Tuesday," said Ion Sancho, the Leon County Supervisor of Elections.

"There is so much work that goes into it, it's amazing the amount of work and a lot of it falls on the responsibility of our clerks. Our clerks are the most fantastic people. They're dedicated, they're civic minded and they do this because they love it.and they put a lot of work into it," said Diana Mitchell-Fulford, the Leon County Elections Supervisor.

Clerks pick up everything except the ballots. The ballots and the voting machines are under steel cage lock and key before being dropped off to the precincts.

If you haven't participated in early voting then you can head out to the polls starting at 7 a.m. Tuesday. Voting goes from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. WCTV will have all angles of Tuesday's primary covered both on the air and online.
