Tallahassee, Florida- August 15, 2012
Scott Maddox and Steve Stewart were the top two vote-getters for Tallahassee City Commission Seat One. They are headed for a runoff election in November but there is already some verbal back and forth.
A Maddox attack ad on Stewart is the issue. The ad piggybacks off an ethics complaint citing Stewart misrepresented himself as an electrical engineer. Stewart says he was paid as an electrical engineer until 1990, but a law passed in 2002 said that electrical engineers need a license to even claim they are electrical engineers. Stewart didn't get the license.
The ad also says that mailers sent out gave peope the perception that Stewart was endorsed by Leon County Superintendent Jacki Pons when he wasn't. Maddox said he simply wanted to set the record straight about the mailers.
Stewart says that he never claimed to be endorsed by Pons. After Tuesday's primary, Maddox said he was glad he ran a positive campaign, but Stewart questioned how that could be after the ad.
Both say they wanted to focus on the issues leading up to November's runoff election, but voters will have to wait and see how it plays out.
