Tallahassee, Florida- September 4, 2012

As the Democratic National Convention convenes in Charlotte, N.C. this week, State Representative Alan Williams (D-Tallahassee) is honored to serve as a delegate for the convention. Williams also has been chosen as a member of the Democratic National Committee Platform Committee, which shapes the vision of the party’s platform.

“I am honored to serve as a delegate for the Democratic National Convention,” said Rep. Williams. “As a delegate, I will bring an important perspective to the national delegation and provide guidance as to the best way to shape the party message. I am a strong supporter of the policies of the Obama administration and had the honor of introducing him on visits to Tallahassee during Obama’s campaign in 2008. I am excited to vote for President Obama in the 2012 general election.”

Rep. Williams will join delegates from all states and cast their votes to choose the Party’s presidential candidate. The Democratic National Convention convenes every four years. The primary goal of the convention is to nominate and confirm a candidate for President and Vice President, to adopt a comprehensive party platform and unify the party.

“As a member of the Democratic National Committee Platform Committee, I believe it is important that we have a platform of diverse communities that will craft this union of the states. The opportunity to exchange ideas and share perspectives on the challenges Democrats face and develop new strategies, directions and solutions that embodies our Party’s values and vision for the future is vital,” Williams said.

As a member of this committee, Representative Williams will help empower Democrats in Florida to voice their opinions regarding key issues: Economic development of sustainable space exploration and innovation for the space coast that will put Floridians back to work; tackling the foreclosure crisis for homeowners in Florida; ensuring full implementation of the Affordable Care Act for seniors and the uninsured; assuring accessibility of higher education and student loans for college students; and maintaining funding for military installations. Addressing these and other priorities will show Floridians and the rest of the country that President Obama is the clear choice for re-election as the President of the United States of America.

Representative Williams continues to make the Obama Administration aware of the needs of our communities on issues involving agricultural, business, energy, higher education, rural development and other important matters. Williams believes these priorities will lead to a renewed sense of commitment for the citizens of Florida and the United States.
