Leon County, FL - An ethics complaint in the Leon County sheriffs race has the challenger questioning the incumbents background. Lisa Sprague says that Sheriff Larry Campbell doesnt live up to everytbing hes claiming.

Sprague has filed a complaint about what Sheriff Larry Campbell claims in his military and education background. Sprague says that a retired U.S. army Colonel conducted independent research on Campbell's background because they were concerned by statements the sheriff made publicly about being a platoon seargeant. Their findings show he only achieved the rank of corporal, which is below a sergeant in rank.

"I think it is very important for elected officials, law enforcement elected officials, to be honest and have integrity, and that any law enforcement officer under his or her command would be subject to disciplinary action and/or even termination," Sprague.

Ther sheriff's office said they were not allowed to comment on the ongoing ethics complaint saying:

"Under section 106.25, Florida Statutes, complaints, Commission investigations, investigative reports and other documents relating to an alleged violation of Chapters 104 and 106, Florida Statutes, are confidential until the Commission finds probable cause or no probable cause. The confidentiality provision does not apply to the person filing the complaint. However it does apply to the Respondent (Sheriff Campbell). Therefore the Sheriff cannot offer a response in reference to this or any other alleged violation until the Commission determines that probable cause exists or does not exist."

The sheriff did provide this statement on the campaign through the Sheriff's Office, saying "we continue to run on our record which is a fiscally conservative and publicly accountable sheriff's office working for the people of Leon County."

A previous complaint against Campbell, filed by James Carl Martin, has been dismissed.

This is Sprague's only complaint filed against Campbell.
