Associated Press Release

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) -- A top aide to former Florida Education Commissioner Tony Bennett is stepping down from his job.

Dale Chu resigned his post as chief of staff on Friday. Chu was earning $150,000 a year. The resignation takes effect Sept. 3 but Chu will be on annual leave until then.

He had previously worked as a top aide to Bennett when he was schools superintendent in Indiana.

Bennett abruptly resigned last week following allegations that he changed the grade of a charter school run by a major Republican donor during his previous job.

Bennett has said he did not do anything wrong.

Chu was one of those on Bennett's staff who received emails discussing proposals to change the grade for Republican donor Christel DeHaan's charter school.
