There's a renewed push to give veterans a tuition break at Florida's colleges and universities.
Under the proposal, veterans new to Florida would pay the less expensive in-state tuition rates.
State Senator Jack Latvala points to an unemployment rate for returning veterans of roughly 20 percent in the state.
"So we need to do everything we can to assist our veterans to be equipped to get new jobs after they give of their time," said Latvala. "They sacrifice and protect us, particularly in these foreign conflicts we've had over the last few years," he said.
A similar proposal passed the house last year.
However, Latvala says because it was attached to a proposal to give tuition breaks to undocumented residents, it died in the Senate.
