Voters in 14 Counties Receive Letters That They're 'Noncitizens'

Tallahassee, FL - Official-looking bogus letters telling voters their citizenship is in question are turning up in Florida, a state that's led efforts to purge noncitizens from registration rolls.

A Florida Department of Law Enforcement spokeswoman on Tuesday said the agency was monitoring the situation but doesn't yet have enough evidence to launch a criminal investigation.

The letters purport to come from various Florida county supervisors of elections but they're all postmarked from Seattle, Wash.

They tell voters they'll be removed from the rolls unless they can prove their citizenship. They also warn that noncitizens can face criminal charges if they vote.

The letters have so far been found in 23 counties and have gone mostly to Republicans. Republican Gov. Rick Scott pushed for the purge of noncitizens.

Tallahassee, FL - Voters in 14 Florida counties have received letters telling them they have been identified as non-citizens and may not be allowed to vote.

Counties include Brevard, Duval and Hernando. We will get a list of all the counties and talk to Governor Rick Scott and the Division Elections about what voters should do if they receive one of these letters.

WCTV will bring you more on the story tonight.
