Decatur County Commission District 4: Ted Snell/Frank Loeffler

Tedd Snell

FACED WITH TOUGH BUDGET CHOICES IN THE COMING YEARS, AS COMMISSIONER, WOULD YOU BE MORE IN FAVOR OF CUTTING SERVICES OR SECURING ADDITIONAL REVENUE TO BALANCE BUDGETS?
Securing additional revenue to balance budgets/bringing new industry to our county.

PLEASE RANK THE FOLLOWING SERVICES IN ORDER OF YOUR GREATEST TO LEAST SUPPORT:
In due time and in better economical times, my answers would be different, but at this time, my priorities would be:

1. Offering economic development incentives (bringing jobs to our area).

2. Improving storm water and flood control infrastructure (being so close to the Flint River).

In this time of high unemployment, what are the most important things that should be done to improve Decatur County’s economy?
Economical development authority should be encouraging companies to move into our Industrial Park.

If elected, how do you plan to use your position to improve the lives of citizens?
I am going to be a “HANDS ON COMMISSIONER” and will even go on-the-road to help secure businesses for jobs for our area.
Frank Loeffler

FACED WITH TOUGH BUDGET CHOICES IN THE COMING YEARS, AS COMMISSIONER, WOULD YOU BE MORE IN FAVOR OF CUTTING SERVICES OR SECURING ADDITIONAL REVENUE TO BALANCE BUDGETS?
I know that with the proper economic plan, we can entice businesses to relocate to Decatur County. The additional tax revenue received from these businesses will give us the additional income that we need to expand, rather than cut our services.

PLEASE RANK THE FOLLOWING SERVICES IN ORDER OF YOUR GREATEST TO LEAST SUPPORT:
1. offering economic development incentives
2. improving storm water and flood control infrastructure
3. operating County Parks and Recreation programs
4. supporting arts and cultural activities
5. adequately staffing new and expanded libraries
6. supporting services for homeless
7. expanding public transportation & safer pedestrian and bicycle corridors

PLEASE EXPLAIN YOUR FIRST AND LAST CHOICES. HOW WILL FUNDING YOUR SERVICE PRIORITIES AFFECT TAX RATES IN THE SHORT AND LONG TERM?
I believe that offering economic development incentives should be our first priority. By offering a solid sound economic incentive package, we will be able to entice companies to locate to Decatur County. Attracting new business and industry will automatically expand our tax revenue, which will allow us to increase our services rather than increasing taxes on our residents.

Fortunately, in Decatur County, we are blessed with adequate pedestrian sidewalks and walkways and with public transportation. Because of this, there is not as much of a need for spending taxpayer money to expand these services at this time.

In this time of high unemployment, what are the most important things that should be done to improve Lowndes County’s economy?
I believe that we should redouble our effort to bring in new industry, which will create new jobs and increase our tax revenue. This will put us in a better position to not increase taxes and possibly allow us to reduce them.

If elected, how do you plan to use your position to improve the lives of citizens?
Decatur County is a great place to live now. By improving and expanding our existing county services, we can make Decatur County an even better place to live and raise a family.
