Tallahassee, Florida - Feb. 16, 2012 -

On February 15, 2012, Russell McKeithen contacted the Leon County Sheriff’s Office and reported the theft of building materials from his roofing business which is located in the 400 block of Crossway Road. McKeithen told deputies and detectives that he believed several hundred pounds of aluminum and a generator had been stolen from the business. McKeithen began noticing aluminum siding and other materials missing since January.

Detectives from the Crimes against Property Unit were able to determine that James W. Langford, a former McKeithen Roofing employee, and Raymond M. Smith, a current McKeithen Roofing employee, had sold 350 pounds of scrap aluminum to a local metal recycler since January when the thefts began.

Detectives also determined that Smith pawned the stolen generator in December, 2011 and forged his name to a stolen office check. Smith and Langford were interviewed by detectives and both indicated
their involvement in this series of crimes. They were taken to the Leon County Jail.
