Students and teachers at a local high school are mourning the loss of a football player who died during spring practice on Monday (5/11).
Cook County High School football player Roy White III, died after collapsing yesterday.
The school says after a play, the 16-year-old simply collapsed on the field.
Cook County Superintendent, Dr. Fred Rayfield, says paramedics performed CPR at the school and on the way to Adel Memorial Hospital, where White was pronounced dead.
The county coroner says White's body is being sent to Atlanta for an autopsy and the results could be back tomorrow.
He says the only known medical condition he had was asthma.
Pastors and grief counselors are helping students and teachers cope with White's death.
Cook County has canceled the remainder of spring football as well as Friday's spring game.

At around 5:15 this afternoon, White was participating in spring practice. After a play, he collapsed on the field.
Paramedics performed CPR at the school and on the way to Adel Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The cause of death is unknown at this time.
Dr. Rayfield says that he met with the Principal, Athletic Director, and coaches tonight and counselors and pastors will be on campus Tuesday to help the students deal with this tragedy.
Spring practice has been canceled for the remainder of the spring season. Cook County has also canceled Friday nights spring football game. Players will resume workouts this summer.
