American Red Cross Capital Area Chapter Press Release:
Tallahassee, FL, -
As part of an ongoing effort to educate youth on life saving skills, Trinity Catholic has partnered with the Capital Area Chapter of the American Red Cross to certify 8th grade students at Trinity Catholic on CPR and First Aid Training.
More than 150 Trinity students have completed the course work since its inception four years ago. Students receive hands-on training during their physical education program which includes using manikins to perform skill testing. The staff and after school program instructors also take the CPR & First Aid Training course annually and will be certified on May 15.
“Students, parents, and teachers get excited about the course,” said Kierstan Greif, RN, Trinity’s school nurse. “After taking the course, students feel empowered to properly prepare and respond to emergencies. In knowing how to deal with emergencies there is an obvious improvement in maturity level of students.”
The course helps to promote community involvement among youth and is a step towards becoming a babysitter or lifeguard. The students have already completed the first aid portion of the course and will receive their CPR certification on May 14 upon successful completion of written and skill tests.
“As summer approaches, the Red Cross has a variety of classes to offer our youth as well as the college students and adults in our community,” said Dan Samborn, Chief Executive Officer at the Chapter. “Training in CPR & First Aid, Lifeguarding and Babysitter’s Training are important courses. The training prepares youth with skills for summer jobs as well as making them feel safer and gaining confidence with their abilities to react in an emergency while also learning the value of human life.”
