Quitman, GA - Maurice Freeman is the Brooks County Trojans Football Coach. He visited the lone survivor of a tragic one-car accident that took the lives of three of his players.

"He's home quickly, he's moving around, he's in pain," Freeman said. "But he's talking and he smiled and he cried."

De'Vron Whitfield was released from Shands Hospital Wednesday afternoon and is back home in Quitman. He is the only one to survive a crash that took the lives of three of his fellow Brooks County High School Football teammates, one of which was his brother.

"He asked when we were going to practice again," Freeman said. "And so in my heart and looking at him and hugging him, I think he'll take the field this year in memory of his brother and just because he loves the game of football."

Freeman was following the car driven by Jicarre Watkins when it crashed Tuesday morning. Watkins along with Johnnie Parker and Shawn Waters lost their lives. Waters was Whitfield's brother.

"I was probably forty five seconds to a minute behind them," Freeman said. "Just the whole thing, I guess, probably won't forget this for the rest of my life. It was just tough."

The boys were on their way back home after football practice. The coach says they were also being followed by a school bus full of other players. Many of which saw the tragic accident happen.

The families are still finalizing funeral plans but we'll bring you that information when it becomes available. There will be a fundraiser held for the families of the boys on Saturday in the Harvey's parking lot in Quitman. It will be held from 10-2 p.m. Whitefield is expected to make a full recovery.
