There was a tragic scene on the grounds of a local high school today.

Florida High students gathered to see a simulated car crash.

Students in the First Responder class received hands-on experience to help prepare them for what to do during a real emergency situation.

Programs like this help students prepare for future careers in the medical field.

"It's giving them an opportunity to see if that's really what they want to be. You know, you always hear a kid, 'Oh, I wanna be a pediatric nurse,' or 'I wanna be a doctor when I grow up'...they know, because they're in the ER," said Shirl Streukens, Florida High School nurse.

Students in the First Responder program usually get certified at the end of their junior year; then they get the chance to test for CNA Certification.
