Brooks County, GA -Brooks County High School students, faculty and family gathered for a memorial Friday afternoon honoring four of their own who lost their lives in tragic car crashes.
Maurice Freeman is the Brooks County Trojans Coach. He said "it's a memory for the three young men that we lost and a young lady that we lost last year. Just a way to try and bring some closure for the young people here at Brooks County High School and to have some memories of these young people because these trees they'll last a hundred years."
They planted a tree for each student who lost their life. Jicarre Watkins, Shawn Waters and Johnny Parker were killed when their SUV hit a tree after football practice one month ago to the day. Savannah Wilkes also lost her life in a car crash that happened on Spring Break of last year.
With the first week of school squared away the community is focused on football season, and their hopes for the Trojans.
Coach Freeman went on to say "we're doing fine so far but as we get ready to play these games we'll see what these young men are all about and carry these memories and do the best we can to remember these men. Lets just see what we can do with the season. We're going to dedicate the season to them."
The Trojans first game will be on august twenty third against Clinch County High.
