Florida A&M University and Florida State University's Student Government Associations teamed up today to get down to business.

At the second annual State of the Students Summit.

A variety of leaders brought awareness to major issues affecting today's youth.

They shared their knowledge, insight and empowerment with everyone willing to listen.

Kirk Franklin, Grammy award winning gospel music artist says, "the greatest power that you have is the freedom to choose. The freedom to do whatever you want, you fill in that blank. But just remember that freedom came at someone else's cost."

The topics discussed at the summit included Budget Cuts, heath care, entrepreneurship, environmental sustainability and technology advances.

Former Governor of Arkansas, Mike Huckabee wants students to see the political side of things, while using the tools they have to prosper in life.

Huckabee says, "If a person has a dream and their willing to work hard they can take the tools available to them and translate that into something extraordinary."

Hundreds of students were there to learn how they might contribute and feel inspired about world issues in the future.

Ursula Ible, a FAMU students says "because the way the world is today and the economy right now, that we need to help each other and we need to come together."

The event planners say, the summit is a great way to bridge the gap between FAMU and FSU students
