Valdosta, GA - Valdosta State University could become a major attraction for students looking to go into the medical field.

October 4, 2012 marks the official ground breaking for the new Health Sciences Center.

VSU's new Health Sciences Center is already under construction, right across the street from South Georgia Medical Center and university leaders say that’s kind of the point.

The center will create a direct route for students to get hands-on experience in the medical field.
They will spend a great deal of time working in the hospital.

There will be employment opportunities for many when they graduate, as the Center is 10 years and $32-million dollars in the making.

It's called the "Health Science and Business Administration Building".

Bill McKinney Ph.D., VSU President stated, that "the HSBA building will serve as an advanced academic facility to educate Georgia's future health care professionals. It will also provide continuing education for existing practitioners. It is the cornerstone of VSU's focus on comprehensive health professions programs."

The Center will be 140-thousand square feet, and is being built by KBR Building Group.

The Center is scheduled to be finished by January 2014.
