Thomasville, GA - The Thomas County Public Library has launched the "1000 Books Before Kindergarten" program.
Here's how it works: parents and guardians can pick up a log sheet from the library.
Then for every 100 books read, the child will receive a special treat.
Organizers say they hope the program will teach kids the importance of reading at an early age.
"Students who are read to every day, they test higher in school and it's also a good time to bond with your children," said Amanda Redker, the children's coordinator at the Thomas County Library. "Every night when you read with your child, you're giving them your undivided attention."
There is also an app that helps with the nationwide program called "I Read It Now."
