The road to the College Cup has less traffic now that more teams have been eliminated from competition... One team that's still in the driver's seat is FSU... And as they hit up practice this week, things just keep getting sweeter and sweeter...
Round 3 of the NCAA tournament is extra sweet for the FSU soccer team... The Garnet & Gold are playing in their 5th straight Sweet 16 this week and couldn't be any happier.
"We are fortunate enought to have the number one seed and play at home again..." FSU Sophomore Forward/ Defender Toni Pressley said.
"It's an exciting feeling... Sweet 16. the position that we want. We know Texas A&M is a good team." FSU Sophomore Forward Tiffany McCarty said.
"You know that every team is good.... No team is gonna let you have your way with them. It'll be a battle for us on Friday night." FSU Head Soccer Coach Mark Krikorian said.
While Friday's match against Texas A&M might not be a familiar face, the rest of the brackets have representatives from the ACC family... 7 of the 16 teams still alive in the tournament are from the ACC.
"It speaks to the strength of our schedule... We've beaten each other up... But it's served us well." krikorian said.
Of course all of that ACC hype isn't a concern of the Garnet & Gold, they're simply focused on reaching their 5th college cup in the last 6 years. Oh and did you know that since FSU started a soccer program 15 years ago, they've made the National Tournament 10 times... Now is as good a time as any to bring back the national hardware for the first time in school history.
"We know we are good enough to go to the Final 4 and National Championship, but we have to prove it to our opponents." said McCarty.
