Beachton, GA - August 10, 2011 --

Memphis is known for its barbecue---but the best barbecue is right here in the South.

One Seminole grad has decided to take his hobby and make it into a business just over the Georgia border...but how he arrived at smoking beef is a pretty interesting story.

Joe Beasley is a Seminole fan and a BBQ man. Three or so decades ago he lived with Christian Ponder's dad at Florida State. These days, he's smoking BBQ at his new place, Sugar Shack Smokehouse in Beachton--if it sounds familiar, that's because it's the home of the former, yet legendary JB's BBQ.

"This used to be JB's old place, real famous. Old BBQ place. Strangely enough I'm a JB as well so maybe it was fate," said Beasley.

Beasley made it big in the financial world, dabbled in real estate, but found his love in making his own food from scratch.

"15 years ago or so, I did some competition BBQ with some friends and decided that if I ever had a chance this is something I'd like to do full time. The opportunity presented itself in South Georgia, close to where I went to school at Florida State. The pieces fell together and we decided it was the right time and right place to do it."

His first location opened in Whigham in January, then Beachton a month or so ago, and maybe Tallahassee next. But Beasley is hoping that he's a must stop for Seminole fans coming down from Georgia who want a quick bite to eat before heading off to Doak Campbell Stadium.
