Life is all about choices--when you make the right ones, usually things go your way. But if you make the wrong choice, you and many others could pay for it. But it's how you bounce back from adversity that really counts.
No one knows crab like Eric McKinnon. He's not a fisherman but the locals say he broils up the best plate of crab in town.
"KFC's got nothing on him."
McKinnon is the owner of Leola's Crab Shack, now with two locations in Tallahassee and maybe a 3rd on its way. The kitchen is where he's always felt comfortable and that's why despite owning the place, he also gets his hands dirty working there.
"My mom ran a restaurant, she cooked when I was seven. The only job I did was cook," said Eric McKinnon, owner of Leola's Crab Shack.
But Eric's road to the top didn't come easy. Bad decisions derailed his plans for a half a decade.
"I became a parent at an early age. I couldn't be a parent and pay the bills, I made some wrong choices and ended up doing things that I shouldn't be doing. I did some incarceration time."
Five years to be exact. A long time for Eric to think about what he really wanted out of life. To be a father, a business owner, but more than that, a man.
"Being in that situation, realizing that incarceration changes a lot of people. A lot of people go through that and realize this is not what I want to do the rest of my life."
So Eric has taken it a step further. He's now looking out for men and women trying to get their lives back. He has a few employees on staff with a criminal record and is open to helping out anyone who wants to help themselves.
"I do cater to that. You can get a second chance, I want to be an inspiration to them for that."

5 years in prison - he must have done something pretty bad!
God is a God of not only second chances but as many as we need. May He continue to bless you and your business as you continue to minister to others.
I love this story. Many men that are released from prison find it hard to bounce back because of their background. We have to encourage these men. I always tell my husband, if you can not work for the man, then be the man. Start your own business.
