In this economy, it's hard enough to find a job let alone find someone willing to work for free.

But one Tallahassee man has found a way to combine a home business with his real passion---helping kids.

They say a dog is man's best friend---this is Charles Bagwell--he's a kids best friend. For the past 30 years, he's been volunteering his services for kids all over Tallahassee. 20 years at Oak Ridge, 10 years at Guardian Ad Litem, and now he spends time at Gilchrist and Ghazvini, helping kids do the right thing.

"Charles is absolutely selfless. He's all about what's best for the kids," said Ghazvini Principal Joe Pons.

"Kids are some of my favorite people. Some don't get the same shakes that you and I get," said Bagwell, "Some need a friend they can count on seeing every week."

Charles is many things to many kids. He's an advocate, a teacher, a motivator, a cheerleader--but if he could pick anything at all, it would be friend.

"It's a selfish motivation. I don't believe there's anything more exciting than to be around when the light goes on with a little kid," said Bagwell.

"Every time he walks in the door, everyone is excited to see him. He brings out the best in everyone," said Pons.

Bagwell also served as the Chair of the advisory council at Ghazvini, but he's retired from that job--but administrators in Leon County won't let him hang it up for good--he's far too valuable--and he works for free.

"I tried to sign up for retirement benefits but they wouldn't let me."

Thank you Charles Bagwell. We need more people in our community that care.
