Each of the past two seasons the Night Hawks have won thirty or more games and in those years they've relied mainly on their offense to slug their way to victory. After fourteen seniors graduated, a lot of new faces are ready to fill the gap.
Thomas University head baseball coach Mike Lee says,
"We got our leadoff guy back and we lost the eight behind him, but it's a good leadoff hitter to have. He hit around .390. really the spark plug. When he hit, we were successful."
Junior Joey Kampfer is the only hitter returning from a lineup that is used to seeing the long ball from players like Ryan Stovell, Drew Johnson and Rick Howroyd.
Thomas University senior outfielder Joey Kampfer adds,
"Our lineup isn't as powerful I guess as last year so we'll have to have a lot better pitching to keep the games close."
Which is what looks to be the strength of this years team.
Mike Lee adds,
"Kurtis Mancauskas is coming back from last year and he was a solid number one for us. Jeremy Jones was (8-1) last year, he'll give us a lot of quality innings and we picked up a couple of left handers, Jacob Davis and Kris Castellanos. We've got some experience coming back but we have some fresh arms coming in that we're excited about."
The first look at the new coalition comes January 29th, against Spring Hill.
