Tampa, FL - University of South Florida women’s basketball standout Andrea Smith has been named to the BIG EAST Conference weekly honor roll for the week ending Nov. 28.
Smith, a 5-8 guard from Lakeland, averaged 20 points per game last week while helping the Bulls to a 2-1 record.
The reigning national junior college player of the year, Smith poured in a career-high 33 points on 12-22 shooting from the field and a blistering 8-13 from behind the three-point arc in USF’s 67-49 win over Auburn on Nov. 22. Her eight made treys is tied for the second most in school history. She followed that up with an 11-point effort in a win against UAB (Nov. 26) and then a 16-point outing against Samford (Nov. 27), with both games coming in the Samford Thanksgiving Classic. For her efforts, she was named to the event’s All-Classic team. She also averaged 3.3 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game on the week.
USF, who plays on Tuesday night, Nov. 30 at 7 p.m. against in-state foe Florida Atlantic, is currently 4-3 on the year and has won two of its last three games and three of its last five.
Following Tuesday’s contest, USF will tip-off BIG EAST Conference play on Thursday, Dec. 2 at 7 p.m. when two-time defending national champion – and current No. 1/1 ranked – Connecticut visits the Sun Dome.
UConn is currently 6-0 on the year following its 81-51 win over LSU on Sunday afternoon.
