Valdosta, GA - Valdosta State softball found an open date on the team’s schedule. To fill it, Head Coach Thomas Macera went looking for the biggest, baddest, strongest team Blazer Softball might ever face: Blazer Football.
That’s right! Members of the Valdosta State football team will face the nation’s fourth ranked softball team, the Valdosta State Blazers, on the diamond at 6 p.m. Friday night at the VSU Softball Complex in the first annual Blazer Softball Showdown.
“We are getting a bunch of great athletes together for a good game,” Macera said. “It should be a fun time.”
Since not too many of the VSU football players have quite perfected their underhand fastball, Macera is spotting football a couple of his pitchers. Former All-American Alyssa Shirey will also catch for the football team.
Also playing for the football team will be safety Harrison Drieling, punter Jack Fulford, linebackers Chas Matthews, Japree Miles and Joel Cain and many more.
There will be no charge for admission at the Blazer Softball Showdown, but donations will be welcome.
Do not miss out on what is sure to be the most interesting softball game you can see this season: the Blazer Softball Showdown at 6 p.m. at the Softball Complex.
