Valdosta, GA - Valdosta State looked sharp on both sides of the ball as the Blazers held their final preseason scrimmage of the 2012 year Friday evening at the practice fields at the Athletic Fieldhouse.

The Blazer offense scored on its first four possessions, including all three under starting quarterback Cayden Cochran, while the white team defense limited the Black squad to just 150 yards and one score on 36 plays in the scrimmage.

After the defense forced a three-and-out on the first drive of the scrimmage, Cochran engineered a six-play, 67-yard drive for a touchdown on his first trip onto the field. The junior completed both of his passes for 40 yards on the drive while also picking up three yards on a scramble. Running back Austin Scott took care of the rest of the yardage as he carried the ball three times, including once for 14 yards, for a total of 24 yards. The freshman closed out the drive with a six-yard drive up the middle for a touchdown.

The defense again looked stout on the next Black team drive as it forced another three-and-out. The key play for the defense came on a third-and-four when freshman defensive end Doral White sniffed out a screen pass and hit the opposing running back right as the ball got to him to force the incomplete pass. Senior Greg Reid fielded the ensuing punt and raced 49 yards down the sideline to give the offense the ball back on the opposition's 34.

Cochran quckly put the offense back into the endzone as he completed each of his passes, the first a 22-yard diving catch by Gerald Ford and the second a 12-yard touchdown by Regginald Lewis.

After a third three-and-out for the Black squad, Quin Roberson showed off his talent at returning punts as he fielded the ball on his own 38 and raced 62 yards untouched for the touchdown.

After tallying just 11 yards on its first three drive, the Black squad finally picked up a pair of first downs on its fourth, only to have the drive stall when freshman defensive end Mantevius Rucker came up with a sack, the first of four on the night by the defense, on a third down play. After a punt, Cochran marched the offense 85 yards, completing two of his three passes on the drive while Cedric O'Neal picked up 34 yards on five carries, the last coming on a five-yard touchdown run.

The White team's offense success continued on its first drive after halftime as Graham Craig led the team 69 yards for a score that ended with a three-yard run by O'Neal, the last score of the evening by the White team. Meanwhile, the Black team went three-and-out on its first drive of the second half and picked up one first down on its second before moving the ball 70 yards for a touchdown on the final drive of the game.

Cochran finished the night 6-of-7 for 99 yards and a score while O'Neal carried the ball eight times for 44 yards and two touchdowns.

Valdosta State will hold its annual Meet the Blazers event at Bazemore-Hyder Stadium Saturday morning at 9:00 a.m. before beginning its preparations for its opener at Saginaw Valley State on Sunday. The Meet the Blazers event, which will also feature the cheerleaders and Red Hots dance team, is free to the public.

Senior cornerback and return specialist Greg Reid was named to the Senior Bowl Watch List as announced by the Bowl Thursday night.

Reid is one of 319 players, and one of only 29 not on a FBS roster, named to the list for the prestigious postseason bowl game. The top 100 seniors in the nation are invited to play in the Senior Bowl each January to showcase their talents for NFL coaches, executives and scouts
