Athens, GA - University of Georgia graduate student-athletes Kris Durham and Shaun Chapas along with junior Drew Butler were named to the ESPN Academic All-District 3 First Team Thursday as voted by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

It was the second time for each Bulldog to earn ESPN Academic All-District honors in their career. Chapas, a 6-2, 242-pound fullback out of St. Augustine, Fla., made the 2008 All-District squad as did Durham, a 6-5, 211-pound split end from Calhoun, Ga. Butler, a 6-2, 207-pound punter from Duluth, Ga., earned a spot on the 2009 All-District squad.

This year, Durham, Chapas and Butler were part of the 22-man first team from District 3, which consists of schools in Georgia, Florida, North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia. Georgia was the only Southeastern Conference institution among the districts to place three student-athletes on a first team.

Butler carries a 3.58 grade point average (GPA) in Telecommunication Arts. Durham has a 3.52 GPA in Middle School Education while Chapas sports a 3.44 GPA in Marketing. Butler is averaging 45.5 yards on 38 punts this season as the Bulldogs rank fourth nationally in Net Punting. Last year, Butler was a consensus All-American and the Ray Guy Award winner as the nation’s top punter. Durham has been one of the primary receivers this season, tallying 25 receptions for a team-high 494 yards and two touchdowns in seven games. Chapas, who is primarily a blocking back, has appeared in eight games with six starts. He has two touchdowns this year including one rushing and one receiving. Durham and Chapas are among the 173 football student-athletes who have graduated under head coach Mark Richt since 2001.

To be eligible for the ESPN Academic All-District team, a student-athlete must carry a cumulative GPA of at least 3.3 on a 4.0 scale and be either a starter or a key reserve on his or her team. Now, the first team winners from the eight districts from around the country will be on the national Academic All-America ballot. The ESPN Academic All-America team will be announced Nov. 23.

The Bulldogs (4-5) play host to Idaho State (1-7) Saturday in Athens. Kickoff at Sanford Stadium is set for 12:35 p.m. ET
